Notified for 1 October 2026 to 31 December 2026
She turns 18 in 13 years. After that, or after she passes class 10, a partial withdrawal is allowed. This table does not take one out. The rate is 8.2% for every year. That is the notified rate for 1 October 2026 to 31 December 2026. A later quarter can be different. Interest and the final payment are tax-free. A deposit can be claimed under Section 123 only if you are not under the new regime.
Each month earns interest on the lowest balance between the close of the 5th and the end of that month. The twelve monthly interests are added, rounded to the nearest rupee, and credited at the end of the financial year. 50 paise rounds up. That interest then earns interest in later years.
A deposit on or before 5 April is in the balance for all 12 months. The Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme, 2019 sets this in the interest paragraph. A financial year takes ₹250 to ₹1,50,000, in multiples of ₹50.
15 years of deposits, 21 years to maturity
Deposits are allowed for 15 years from the opening date. The account matures 21 years from that date. If you open it on 1 April, that is 15 deposit years and 6 years when the balance only earns interest. A later opening date still matures on the 21st anniversary, so the last year is shorter. This table does not cut that last year.
The account is opened by a guardian for a girl who has not turned 10. She can take up to half the balance, after she turns 18 or passes class 10, for education or marriage. Closing the account on her marriage after 18 is also allowed. Neither of those is taken out of this balance.
A worked example
₹1,50,000 by 5 April, at 8.2%, for a girl who is 5 when you open the account. Year 1 interest is ₹12,300 and the balance is ₹1,62,300. Year 2 interest is ₹25,609 and the balance is ₹3,37,909. Year 3 interest is ₹40,009 and the balance is ₹5,27,918.
After 15 deposits you have put in ₹22,50,000. Interest over 21 years is ₹49,32,127. Maturity is ₹71,82,127. She is then 26. She turns 18 in 13 years.
The same yearly amount, paid monthly by the 5th, earns ₹6,663 in year 1. The maturity for that timing is ₹69,32,655.
8.2% is the rate for 1 October 2026 to 31 December 2026. The Ministry of Finance left small-savings rates unchanged in its office memorandum of 30 September 2026. The DEA small-savings page lists those notifications.
Tax: the EEE pattern
EEE means a deduction on the way in, no tax on the interest, and no tax on the payment. The payment sits in Schedule II, table item 5 (this was Section 10(11A)). Section 202 does not block that exclusion, so the maturity stays tax-free in both regimes.
The deposit itself is deductible under Section 123, read with Schedule XV (this was Section 80C), only when the depositor is not taxed under Section 202. The yearly cap of ₹1,50,000 is the same cap as the older section 80C basket.
Assumptions and limits
One rate is used for the whole 21 years. The government can change it each quarter.
The opening date is taken as 1 April. A later date makes the last year shorter.
A partial withdrawal, closure on marriage, and a defaulted year are not modelled.
A monthly split puts leftover rupees in March. A real instalment must be a multiple of ₹50.
Two accounts are the usual maximum, three if the girls are twins or triplets. This page is one account.

Questions
Why do deposits stop at 15 years when maturity is 21?
The scheme lets you deposit for 15 years from the day you open the account. The account itself matures 21 years from that day. The balance keeps earning interest for the six years in between. This table assumes you opened it on 1 April, so each row is one financial year.
Does a deposit on 10 April earn interest for April?
No. Interest for a month uses the lowest balance between the close of the 5th and the end of that month. A deposit on 10 April starts earning from May. This calculator has two timings: the whole amount by 5 April, or a monthly amount by the 5th.
Is the maturity tax-free?
Yes. A payment from the account is excluded from total income under Schedule II, table item 5 of the Income-tax Act, 2025. That was Section 10(11A). Section 202 does not block that exclusion. A deposit can be claimed under Section 123, read with Schedule XV (this was Section 80C), only if you are not under Section 202, and only inside the ₹1,50,000 cap.
Can I open an account after she turns 10?
No. The account is for a girl who has not turned 10. The age slider stops at 9 years and 11 months. An account that is already open keeps running until 21 years from the opening date, even after she is older than 10.
A PPF account uses the same monthly-balance rule and a different term. The PPF calculator runs the 15-year statutory term, which takes 16 deposits.
